Sample layout for 8-pen SeaStation farm

OceanSpar helps clients develop custom mooring solutions and design specialized equipment for their offshore aquaculture operations. Our engineering services team has the experience, skills and tools to help farm managers develop and implement secure, tailored solutions for their sites.

Custom Mooring Solutions

Each open ocean aquaculture site is unique. Mooring solutions must be tailored for site characteristics such as depth gradients, capacity configuration, and current direction and velocity. Our engineering team analyzes these factors and creates a detailed mooring design and rigging specifications, including line strengths and geometry. We also construct tailored finite element models to simulate the forces and expected motions of the site’s planned infrastructure. This analysis allows clients to make more detailed cost-benefit trade-offs.

Specialized Equipment

Offshore aquaculture operations can vary significantly by the fish species, availability of land-based infrastructure, and business model. Our engineering team works closely with clients to design specialized equipment or modifications to OceanSpar products that best fit the needs of the client’s offshore operating model. Historically, specialized equipment projects have included custom fish pen sizes, equipment for alternative harvesting methods, and custom cleaning equipment.

Experience & Tools

Our Engineering Team has over 30 years of cumulative experience addressing ocean engineering challenges through private industry and the U.S. Navy. Our team uses a variety of solid modeling tools (SolidWorks, ProE) and drawing software (AutoCAD). OceanSpar also employs its own proprietary finite element modeling software (NEMOS), built specifically to model fish pen configurations.
